A Second Exploration of the Anhui University Bamboo Manuscript"Zhongni(Confucius)Said"
The Anhui University Warring States bamboo manuscript"Zhongni(Confucius)said"is relatively complete Warring States bamboo text comprising twenty-five short passages, nearly all of which begin with the three-character phrase"Zhongni said."Most of its contents correspond to passages from such texts as the Analects of Confucius,"Black Robes,""Doctrine of the Mean,"and the"Great Learning,"while it also contains a number of passages that have not been transmitted to us.Previously, this author published an article analyzing each passage and sentence from the first half of this manuscript and their forms of divergence with corresponding passages in the received tradition,so as to further explore the nature of this manuscript and the significance it might hold for the early development of the Confucian canon. The present article continues this work through to the conclusion of the second half of the manuscript, after which it offers a reassessment and reevaluation of the entire manuscript in light of this analysis.
