This paper discusses the relationship between family development and life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau based on the data of a survey conducted in Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The study found that life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen was at a high level on the whole. The families of farmers and herdsmen, while maintaining a traditionally large family size, are at a relatively high level in terms of material base, population quality and social capital. The relationship between their family development and life satisfaction is close. The better the family ma-terial foundation, the better the health status of family members, the more direct family support available to individuals and interactive support between family and community neighbors, the higher their individ-ual life satisfaction. Family development plays a positive role in improving life satisfaction of farmers and herdsmen. In the context of promoting common prosperity and rural revitalization, we should not on-ly continue improving people's livelihood in the agricultural and pastoral areas on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, but also work together to promote family development, so that families can play their due and important role in satisfying the needs of farmers and herdsmen for a better life.
