Progress in the Molecular Research of Silkworm Mutants
The Bombyx mori is a fully domesticated insect, not only an important economic animal with over 5000 years of breeding history but also an excellent material for research in fields such as genetics.Mutants are important resources in genetic research, playing a crucial role in revealing genetic laws, gene functions, metabolic pathways, regulatory networks, molecular mechanisms, and more.Bombyx mori has a wide variety of mutation types, with over 600 Mendelian mutations described. To date, more than 90 mutated genes have been identified in molecular level, which are mainly related to egg color, body color, markings, body shape, appendages, cocoon color, and physiological variations. These discoveries have led to a series of unique and important scientific discoveries, contributing positively to the development of seri-cology,entomology,and life sciences. This article reviews the progress in the molecular analysis of muta-ted genes in silkworms for the benefit of readers.
