Effects of Silkworm Fed with Precocene Ⅱ at the 3rd Instar on Silk Fineness and Mechanical Properties
The utility-type variety of silkworm was treated by drug additional feeding in order to obtain fine denier silk with excellent mechanical properties.Using Precocene Ⅱ as additional feeding material, the silkworm was treated on the first day of the third instar, and silkworm fed with normal mulberry leaves were used as control to explore the effects of Precocene Ⅱ additional feeding on cocoon type, cocoon weight, silk fineness, silk structure, mechanical properties and thermal stability of silk. The results showed that the cocoon length was decreased significantly, the secondary structure content of silk was changed, and the mechanical properties of silk improved after the silkworm variety XIAFB was added with 600 mg/L concentration of Precocene Ⅱ.The research results can provide reference for the breeding of fine-denier silkworm varieties and the study of silk modification.
