Based on the concept of representative works evaluation, this paper introduces the C10 index,a novel metric which can reflect the long-term academic reputation of journals, and verifies its validity and discusses its application value. The C10 index aims to capture the long-term academic reputation of journals by identifying representative papers with a high academic impact(cited no less than 10 times)published in the last ten years. The number of such papers associated with a journal determines its C10 value. To validate the C10 Index, data from CSSCI and CNKI databases were collected to calculate the index for CSSCI source journals(2021-2022).Journals with high academic prestige were identified using this index and compared with those recognized by the National Social Science Foundation of China and awarded the Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institutions(Humanities and Social Science). The study confirmed the validity of the C10 index and explored its application value in journal evaluation and development. The empirical findings demonstrate that journals selected based on the C10 index criteria have excelled in receiving grants from the National Social Science Foundation of China and prestigious awards for Science Research in Higher Institutions(Humanities and Social Science). The C10 index, rooted in the concept of representative work evaluation, effectively distinguishes journals with high academic prestige and their representative papers. This metric can significantly contribute to journal evaluation processes and foster the advancement of academic publications.
