Study on the Punishment Regulations and Judicial Practice for"Destroying Archives"in the Qing Dynasty
The use of legal provisions for punishment was an important measure during the Qing Dynasty to reduce the occurrence of"destroying archives"cases.Compared to legal documents, the regulations describe the details of how to punish the those who destroyed archives in the judical offices(yamen offices)of various provinces and cities,as well as in the yamen offices of the Eight Banners, which are more likely to become the basis for conviction in cases of"destroying archives".Correspondingly, the handling of these cases from the Qianlong to Guangxu period was mostly consistent with the regulations. The overall presentation shows the characteristics of"punishment regulations are implemented aross regions to ensure coordinated prevention and control","relatively stable case handling procedures with cases of different severity",and"highly applicability of punishment regulations in the case handling".
