The paper reviews the achievements made in the construction of fundamental geographic information in Guangxi during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" briefly, then compares the similarities and differences between fun-damental geographic information and natural resource data in view of the problems existing in the geographic information service under the new situation, and elaborates the necessity to upgrade and transform the current geographic information services. It also discusses the focus of transformation for fundamental geographic information services in Guangxi from the perspective of spatio-temporal database and information service system to provide reference for transformation and upgrading for fundamental geographic information services in Guangxi with the help of data services, knowledge engine, cloud computing and other technologies.
