Based on the MODIS leaf area index time-series data set, the spatial and temporal characteristics of vegetation in Hunan province from 2001 to 2019, the change trends and their correspondence with climatic factors were studied by using the main methods such as coefficient of variation, Mann-Kendall trend test and correlation analysis. The results showed that: (1) The leaf area index in Hunan province remained at a high value, the overall vegetation showed an increasing trend with a rate of 0.57％/10 a; the vegetation growth in the west was better than that in the east. High vegetation growth areas and medium-high vegetation growth areas accounted for 80.5％ of the whole provincial area. (2) The relationship between vegetation LAI and meteorology in Hunan province was not sig-nificant, LAI was positively correlated with precipitation and temperature, and negatively correlated with sunshine hours.
