The fundamental surveying and mapping is a basic and public welfare work that serves the national economic construction, national defense construction and social development. For a long time, China's fundamental surveying and mapping has made great a-chievements, but facing the needs of economic and social development in the new era, it is necessary to continue promoting the trans-formation and upgrading of China's fundamental surveying and mapping in the established direction. This paper analyzes the new needs, characteristics and existing problems of China's fundamental surveying and mapping in the new era. Combined with the a-chievements and experience of the existing fundamental surveying and mapping work, this paper puts forward the focus of the transfor-mation and upgrading of China's fundamental surveying and mapping in the next step, which provides ideas for the transformation and upgrading of fundamental surveying and mapping.
