Based on GIS technology and using land use type data from 2000 to 2020 in Xiamen city as the data source, this study con-ducts dynamic analysis of land use spatial evolution, constructs land use degree index and land use diversity index, and analyzes the characteristics and driving mechanisms of land use evolution in Xiamen city from 2000 to 2020. The results show that the construction land in Xiamen city increased rapidly from 2000 to 2020, mainly from cultivated land conversion; The analysis of spatial structure and land use degree shows that the southern region of Xiamen city has a better development than the northern region, with a higher compre-hensive index of land use and a higher degree of human and economic development.
