In the construction of overhead transmission lines, the calculation of earthwork of pole tower foundation affects the economic benefits and construction period of the project, so it is necessary to select the appropriate calculation method of earthwork. In this pa-per, four methods of section method, grid method, contour method and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) method are firstly analyzed, and Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) is used to improve the traditional DEM method. Five different methods are applied to actual cases to compare their adaptability to terrain and calculation accuracy. The results show that the improved DEM method can obtain the optimal mesh number at X, Y and Z axes, and has the widest application range and the highest calculation accuracy. Compared with the traditional DEM method, the calculation speed is improved.
