Public Environmental Appeals,and High-quality Economic Development in China's Yangtze River Economic Belt:Influence Mechanism and Empirical Test
The ecological environment is an important yardstick for measuring the effectiveness of high-quality economic development.As an important factor in the interaction between economic development and environmental protection,public environmental appeals are of great significance in promoting high-quality economic development.Exploring the heterogeneity and spatial spillover effects of public environmental appeals on economic high-quality development shows that public environmental appeals effectively promote economic high-quality development;the impact of public environmental appeals on economic high-quality development in different regions of China's Yangtze River Economic Belt is heterogeneous,with a better impact on the middle and lower reaches of China's Yangtze River and large and medium-sized cities;and the study of spatial spillover effects shows that the public environmental appeals significantly inhibit the quality development of neighboring cities while promoting local economic high-quality development.The study of spatial spillover effect shows that public environmental appeals significantly inhibit the high-quality development of neighboring cities while promoting the high-quality development of the local economy;technological innovation,industrial structure upgrading,and environmental regulation are the main transmission mechanisms through which public environmental appeals affect the high-quality development of the economy.Therefore,raising public environmental awareness,establishing a unified management agency,and promoting cross-regional environmental cooperative governance can play a positive role in leveraging the public's environmental protection appeals to promote high-quality economic development.
