Research progress on biosynthesis and accumulation mechanisms of vegetable oil
Vegetable oil is a kind of lipid extracted from main plant seeds, which is composed of triglycerides and has been widely used in food, medical, chemical industry field and so on. The accumulation process of vegetable oil is not only affected by functional genes, but also regulated by internal changes of physiological state and external environmental factors. Therefore, it is of great significance and application value to clarify the biosynthesis and regulation mechanism of vegetable oil and improve the content and composition of vegetable oil. In this review, the recent research progress on regulating genes in vegetable oil synthesis pathway, including basic model of vegetable oil biosynthesis pathway, key enzymes in the pathway of vegetable oil biosynthesis, key transcription factors or regulatory proteins involved in lipid accumulation, the impact of other factors on oil accumulation, future research direction of vegetable oil biosynthesis and accumulation mechanism were summarized. This review provided a theoretical basis and new insights for the mechanism of vegetable oil biosynthesis and the genetic improvement of oil crops.
