A Study on the English Translation of Spiritual Ecological Metaphor in Zhuangzi from the Perspective of Narrative Reconstruction
Metaphorical speech is one of the characteristics of Zhuangzi's discourse, and there are many spiritual ecological metaphors that embody the isomorphic interaction between the subject and its living environment. After defining the concept and putting forward the metaphor recognition procedure, based on the narrative reconstruction theory, this paper selects an English translation example of the spiritual ecological metaphor in Zhuangzi to explore which narrative reconstruction strategy can better negotiate and construct the metaphorical narrative content of the spiritual ecology in the original text of Zhuangzi in the target language audience,so as to better restore and transmit the spiritual ecological connotation of the original text in the foreign culture.According to the source of metaphor, the spiritual ecological metaphor in Zhuangzi can be divided into two categories:natural images such as animals and plants, and unnatural images such as location words and common material nouns. The English translation of the former can adopt selective image-building narrative methods such as retaining figurative image or adding onomatopoeia. The latter should adopt the narrative strategy of repositioning the characters and events in the text or the sub-text.The above strategies can effectively and vividly convey the spiritual ecological thoughts of the source text to the readers in the cultural circle of the target language.
