Research on stability of surrounding rock and supporting effect of underground cavern group at a pumped storage power station in Qinghai
The underground powerhouse of a pumped storage power station in Qinghai is a typical deep-buried large cavern group, which has the characteristics of large burial depth, large span, high sidewalls, and is challenged by geological conditions such as the development of small faults in powerhouse area. The stability of its surrounding rock is complex and important.Research has shown that underground caverns are supported by reducing the degree of excavation disturbance to the surrounding rock and maintaining the level of confining pressure, the depth and deformation of plastic zone in surrounding rock are improved after support and the supporting structure is in good stress condition. This indicates that the spacing between caverns is reasonable, the surrounding rock is overall stable, and the condi-tions for cavern excavation are met. This study is informative for the design and construction of similar underground cavern group.
