Manwan hydropower dam has been in operation for 30 years.This article reviews the improve-ment of horizontal control network and the instruments for monitoring of dam horizontal displacement,external slope deformation and dam seepage.As well,the development of automatic monitoring system is introduced.While elaborating on observation methods,data processing and development of automation,the further development direction is also presented,for reference.
