Based on the basic equations of hydraulics and the conservation of the sum of pressure and momentum on the section of conjugate water depth of the closed pipe when hydraulic jump occurs which exerts pressure on the pipe,the cause reasons of serious cavitation damage of gate shaped culvert pipe of a small reservoir operating with normal water level are calculated and analyzed.Results show that it is because of the cavitation and erosion caused by unfavourable flow regime in the pipe.Accordingly,pre-vention measures are put forward,for reference.
