Analysis of dam-break flood propagation based on 1D and 2D coupled hydraulic model
Dam-break is a sudden event with low probability and high risk.Dam-break flood risk map is an important non-engineering measure to reduce the inundation loss caused by downstream flood.Taking Nanshui reservoir in Guangdong province as an example,a 1D and 2D coupled flood propagation model is established by using HydroMPM software, and the flow process at earth-rock dam breach is cal-culated by using BREACH model. The propagation processes of dam-break flood under three condi-tions—piping break in non-flood season, piping break in flood season and overtopping break—are simu-lated.The results show that once the reservoir fails, the dam-break flood would discharge sharply with high peak and strong impact force, which would cause serious flood inundation loss to the downstream ar-ea.The results such as dam-break flood inundation range can provide technical basis for evacuation of downstream people and flood warning.
