The leakage reasons of shaft seal of propane compressor in low temperature methanol washing unit were analyzed. The result showed that the leakage was caused by the high temperature of the sealing oil which led to shaft seal abrasion, coke formation and carbon deposition. By adding water cooler for sealing oil, enlarging the volume of sealing oil tank, increasing the size of the oil line, and reforming the returning oil port, the life of the shaft seal was improved greatly, therefore increasing the operation stability of the compressor and the plant, and lowering down the cost of equipment maintenance.
