The mediating effect of psychological flexibility between death anxiety and quality of life in cancer patients
Objective To investigate the current status of death anxiety,psychological flexibility and quality of life in cancer patients,and to analyse the mediating effect of psychological flexibility between death anxiety and quality of life.Methods From January to April 2023,300 cancer patients in a tertiary cancer hospital in Hunan province were selected as the research objects.The general information questionnaire,Templer's Death Anxiety Scale(T-DAS),Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-2nd Edition(AAQ-Ⅱ),European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer,Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30(EORTC QLQ-C30)were used to investigate.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyse the correlation between psychological flexibility,death anxiety and quality of life in cancer patients.Amos 26.0 software was used to establish a mediating effect model of psychological flexibility between death anxiety and quality of life,and the Bootstrap method was used to verify the mediating effect.Results The scores of death anxiety,psychological flexibility and overall quality of life in cancer patients were(7.34±3.92),(16.65±7.65)and(57.92±27.04).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of death anxiety was positively correlated with the total score of psychological flexibility(r=0.552,P＜0.01),and negatively correlated with the score of total quality of life(r=-0.161,P＜0.01).The total score of psychological flexibility was negatively correlated with the total quality of life score(r=-0.277,P＜0.05).Psychological flexibility had a partial mediating effect between death anxiety and quality of life,and the mediating effect accounted for 49.69％of the total effect.Conclusion Death anxiety can affect the quality of life directly or indirectly through psychological flexibility.Nursing staff should take targeted intervention measures to alleviate the death anxiety of cancer patients,reduce the occurrence of negative emotions,improve their psychological flexibility and quality of life.
