Application study of a pickling process for TC18 titanium alloy
Titanium alloy pickling is a necessary process before fluorescence inspection of titanium alloy parts, which has strict requirements for the increased amount of hydrogen and corrosion removal amount of titanium alloys. In this paper,a pickling process method for TC18 titanium alloy with the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate inhibitor has been explored through process experiments. After acid pickling using this method, the surface of the sample is smooth, with a silver white or silver gray metallic luster, without corrosion pits or spots or oxide scales that have not been acid washed off.The increased amount of hydrogen can meet the requirement of ASTME 1447(≤0.002%).The corrosion rate test results indicate that the corrosion removal amount of the material can be controlled within the range of 0.005 to 0.01 mm.
