Using the methods of literature, field research and expert interviews, this paper studies school sports boostering the cultivation of reserve talents in competitive sports in China in the new era. According to the study, the training of reserve talents in competitive sports in China is faced with development dilemmas such as the shortage of talent reserves, the lagging retirement resettlement system and the contradiction of learning and training. School sports can broaden the scale of talent training to make up for the shortcomings of competitive events in China and promote the all-round development of students. Countermeasures are as follows: improve the training level and perfect the school sports event system; clarify the athlete identity attributes of students and pay close attention to cultural education; promote students' extensive participation in sports activities to enhance students' interest in sports participation.
