By the literature method and others methods, the application effects of foam rolling (FR) in the field of sports are reviewed by combing relevant literature at home and abroad. It is found that FR can have a positive effect on the improvement of the joint range of motion without affecting sports performance as a warm-up means, the application effect of FR is not obvious as an active rest method, and that FR has a positive improvement effect in relieving exercise-induced soreness, increasing the joint ragne of motion and decreasing the decline of sports performance as a recovery mothod. It is suggested that sports enthusiasts without relevant contraindications should consider FR as one of the warm-up and recovery means.
