Comparative Study of the Curriculum of Sports Science and Health Promotion Majors in Chinese and American Universities
Based on university rankings, this study selected the main courses of sports science and health promotion majors from 10 universities each in China and America as research samples, and used the content analysis method to infer the environmental background and meaning of the main course content of sports science and health promotion majors in Chinese and American universities to serve as references for constructing a new curriculum of sports science and health promotion in China. It was found that there are following differences in the course construction of sports science and health promotion majors in Chinese and American universities: differences in curriculum design concepts based on talent needs, differences in curriculum content based on development stages, and differences in the choices of key courses. Based on above analysis, this study proposes countermeasures and suggestions to promote the curriculum of sports science and health promotion majors in China: further tap the potential of sports science and health promotion majors in Chinese universities, reduce the number of main courses to improve their quality, and establish a certification system for professionals in sports science and health promotion.
