Research On the Intervention Effect of Light Strength High-Intensity Interval Training on Obese College Students
Objective:To compare the effects of High-intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise prescriptions on obese college students. Methods:A total of 63 obese college students (21.6±2.1 years old)with BMI(25.6±1.7) were recruited and randomly assigned to treadmill HIIT group (n=21),light strength HIIT group (n=21) and control group without training (n=21). The treadmill group received variable speed HIIT,the light strength group received HIIT,and the control group received no additional exercise training except school sports. The physical fitness indexes of the subjects were measured before and after the 12-week intervention. Results:The body weight,BMI,body fat percentage and body fat content of obese college students were significantly reduced by treadmill HIIT and light strength HIIT (P<0.05),and the grip strength and VO2max were significantly increased (P<0.05). Only the visceral fat area of the treadmill group was significantly decreased (P<0.05).Conclusion:HIIT exercise prescription can effectively improve the fitness of obese college students. Running HIIT exercise prescription is more effective in reducing visceral fat, while light strength HIIT exercise prescription is more advantageous in improving strength quality. It is suggested that obese college students adopt the exercise prescription of light strength HIIT to achieve greater health benefits.
