Preparation and properties of a water-based inorganic zinc-rich primer for steel structures in marine environment
[Introduction]Marine steel structures suffer from severe corrosion due to the long-term exposure to high salt spray, high humidity, and sunlight.Currently, most water-based inorganic zinc-rich primers have high zinc content and high cost.[Method]A water-based inorganic zinc-rich primer with good storage stability, strong corrosion resistance, and short drying time was obtained by using a home-made high-modulus potassium silicate solution as the binder after optimizing the preparation conditions.[Result]The binder prepared from the potassium silicate solution stabilized by using a quaternary ammonium compound with 8.6%(mass fraction)of thickener could be stably stored at 50 ℃ for 30 days. The coating prepared with a mass ratio of binder to zinc powder 1.0:1.2 could endure up to 5 000 hours of neutral salt spray corrosion.[Conclusion]This primer can be used for anticorrosion of steel structures in marine environment.
