Comparative analysis of microstructures of 311 and 71 passivation films on tinplates
[Introduction]The passivation process of tinplate affects the adhesion of paint on its surface. It is of great significance to analyze the structural differences of passivation films obtained by different processes.[Method]The tinplates passivated by 311 process or 71 process from different manufacturers were tested by using X-ray photoelectron spectrometer(XPS)to analyze the content and chemical states of Cr,Sn,O,and Fe layer by layer at the depth ranging from 0 to 50 nm.[Result]The thickness, coverage, and interlayer structure of the passivation films at the edge and middle of the 311 and 71 passivated tinplates were different. The 71 passivation film had better paint adhesion than the 311 passivation film.[Conclusion]Cr existing in the inner layer and Cr(OH)3 existing in the outer layer of 71 passivation film play a key role in enhancing the adhesion of paint on tinplate.
