[Introduction]The crevice corrosion behavior of carbon steel components in neutral soil environment is worth studying.[Method]The Q235 carbon steel specimen with a single crevice was immersed in the simulated soil solution, and the corrosion rate, corrosion morphology, and corrosion products after different corrosion time were characterized.[Result]The corrosion of Q235 carbon steel was accelerated due to the existence of crevice in the neutral simulated soil solution. The crevice corrosion occurs significantly along the crevice opening at the initial stage, and then the pitting corrosion occurs inside the crevice. The corrosion products inside and outside the crevice were mainly Fe3O4 and FeOOH,and did not change with the extending of corrosion time.[Conclusion]Q235 carbon steel has obvious crevice corrosion in neutral simulated soil solution. The process of crevice corrosion can be divided into three stages:initial uniform corrosion, intermediate crevice corrosion induced by oxygen concentration cell, and later self-catalytic occluded cell corrosion. In order to ensure the safety of carbon steel structure serving in neutral soil environment, some measures should be taken to control the crevice corrosion.
