Effect of Wuling powder on body weight,routine blood test results,and visceral organs in mice with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome
Objective:To investigate the effect of Wuling powder on the body weight,routine blood test results,and visceral organs of mice with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D).Methods:A total of 18 spe-cific pathogen-free Kunming mice were selected,and after 3 days of adaptive feeding,6 mice were randomly selected as normal group,while the remaining 12 mice were given senna by gavage combined with acute restraint stress to establish a model of IBS-D.After successful modeling,the 12 model mice of IBS-D were randomly divided into spontaneous re-covery group and Wuling powder group,with 6 mice in each group.The mice in the Wuling powder group were given the water decoction of Wuling powder at a dose of 7.93 g/(kg·d),and those in the normal group and the spontaneous recovery group were given distilled water by gavage at the same frequency and dose.The body weight of mice was meas-ured on day 1 of modeling and at the end of modeling and intervention.After the end of intervention,routine blood test were measured,and liver index,spleen index,and thymus index were calculated.Results:Compared with the normal group after modeling,the model mice showed a significant reduction in body weight(P<0.05),and after intervention,the Wuling powder group showed a significantly higher growth rate than the spontaneous recovery group(P<0.05).Compared with the normal group,the spontaneous recovery group had significant increases in red blood cell distribution width-standard deviation(RDW-SD),white blood cell count(WBC),and neutrophil count(NEUT),and the Wuling powder group had significant increases in red blood cell count,RDW-SD and red blood cell distribution width-CV(P<0.05).The Wuling powder group had significantly lower WBC and NEUT than the spontaneous recovery group(P<0.05).Conclusion:For mice with IBS-D,Wuling powder can promote the growth of body weight and the regenera-tion of red blood cells,restore white blood cells and neutrophils,and effectively alleviate inflammatory response.Further studies are needed to observe its effect on visceral organ development and immune function.
