Epidemiological survey of a case with chlamydia psittaci pneumonia in Chongqing municipality
Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of a case with chlamydia psittaci pneumonia in Rongchang district,Chongqing municipality,explore the etiology and influencing factors,and provide reference for the prevention and control of psittacosis.Methods The epidemiological investigation of the case was carried out by telephone and on-site survey.The pathogens were detected in the samples of the case,close contacts,environmental samples,and animal fecal samples.Results The case was an old man aged 78 years,and was overweight and suffered from hypertension and dyslipidemia.This case was admitted to hospital due to the symptoms of fever,intolerance of cold,cough,whole body muscle soreness and dyspnea for 2 days.The examination results of chest CT showed pulmonary infection.The blood and sputum culture samples were tested positive for chlamydia psittaci by polymerase chain reaction.This case had suspected exposure history to a bird trading market,with an incubation period of 20 days.A total of 3 close contacts were identified,without abnormalities after 7 days medical isolation and observation at home.Totally 22 environmental samples were collected,and the chlamydia psittaci was negative after the nucleic acid testing.Conclusions This case may be infected due to exposure to the external environment of a bird trading market contaminated with chlamydia psittaci.The monitoring of chlamydia psittaci in livestock and poultry markets,especially in bird markets should be strengthened.The health publicity and education should be enhanced to raise the public awareness of psittacosis and other zoonotic diseases.
