Epidemiological characteristics and etiological surveillance results of hand-foot-mouth disease in Guoyang county from 2018 to 2022
Objective This paper aims to understand the epidemic trend and etiological characteristics of hand-foot-and-mouth disease(HFMD)from 2018 to 2022 in Guoyang county of Bozhou city, and to provide guidance for the prevention and control of HFMD in Guoyang county. Methods The HFMD cases, demographic information and HFMD pathogen laboratory test data reported in Guoyang county from 2018 to 2022 were collected through China Disease Prevention and Control Information System.Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the epidemic characteristics and etiological detection results of HFMD in Guoyang county. Results From 2018 to 2022,a total of 6 312 HFMD cases were reported in Guoyang county, with the incidence rate ranging from 37.64/100 000 to 204.10/100 000,and the average annual incidence rate was 99.71/100 000.Among them, there were 3 756 males(59.51%)and 2 556 females(40.49%),with a sex ratio of 1.47:1.The average annual incidence was 116.32/100 000 in males and 82.65/100 000 in females.A total of 6 012 cases(95.25%)were reported in children aged 5 and below. The number of HFMD cases reported annually has a"bimodal"distribution. The first peak period was from March to July, with a total of 3 968 cases, accounting for 62.86%.The second peak period was from September to December, with 1 709 cases reported, accounting for 27.08%.A total of 202 HFMD samples were detected in Guoyang county laboratory, and 124 cases(61.39%)were infected with enteroviruses,of which 60 cases(48.39%)were CVA6 viruses and 35 cases(28.23%)were other enteroviruses. There was a significant difference in pathogen types before the COVID-19 pandemic(2018-2019)and during the epidemic normalization stage(2020-2022)(x2=28.335,P<0.001).Conclusions HFMD is mainly found in children under 5 years old in Guoyang county, and CVA6 is the main pathogen.Prevention and control measures such as health education and vaccination should be taken in key places such as kindergartens before the high incidence season to effectively prevent the spread and epidemic of HFMD.
