Analysis of monitoring results of common diseases in primary and middle school students in a district of Wuwei city from 2021 to 2023
Objective To understand the prevalence of common diseases such as dental caries, malnutrition, obesity, poor eyesight, and abnormal spinal curvature among primary and secondary school students in a certain district of Wuwei city of Gansu province, and provide scientific basis for schools and relevant departments to take intervention measures and strengthen school health management. Methods According to the requirements of the National Program for Monitoring and Intervention of Common Diseases and Health Influencing Factors of Students,a stratified random cluster sampling method was taken to carry out the surveillance of common diseases such as myopia, dental caries, and obesity among 8 600 primary and secondary school students in the district from 2021 to 2023.The data was analyzed with descriptive epidemiological methods. Results The detection rate of poor vision was the highest(75.93%)among middle and primary school students in a district of Wuwei city from 2021 to 2023,followed by the detection rate of dental caries(42.42%),overweight(20.97%),obesity(13.27%),high blood pressure(11.91%)and abnormal spine curvature(5.17%).The detection rate of malnutrition was found to be 4.24%.The detection rates of caries(x2=74.942)and low visual acuity(x2=97.017)showed increasing trend year by year(P<0.05).Additionally,the detection rate of malnutrition was higher in girls(5.16%)than in boys(3.48%),with a statistical difference(x2=14.963,P<0.05).The detection rates of low vision acuity, high blood pressure, and abnormal spinal curvature increased with the learning stages in primary and secondary school students(P<0.001).Conclusions The prevalence of common diseases among primary and secondary school students can't be ignored in a district of Wuwei city. Both detection rates of dental caries and poor vision keep in high level in the primary and secondary school students. The malnutrition coexists with overweight and obesity. The prevalence of high blood pressure and abnormal spinal curvature increases with the learning stages. The schools, families, and society should work together to cultivate students'self-disciplined health awareness and behavior, such as scientific eye use, reasonable rest and rest, adequate exercise, good posture and balanced diet by various forms of health education and publicity activities for preventing the occurrence of common diseases such as myopia, dental caries, and obesity in primary and secondary school students, and keeping and promoting their health.
