Causal Analysis and Treatment for Undesired Shutdown of Steam Turbine's Main Steam Valve
The regulation and security mechanism is an important protection for steam turbines, and its operation domi-nates production status of the entire plant. There was encountered undesired shutdown of main steam valve by a tentative-ly operating high-pressure oil pump of an actual steam turbine in a certain power plant. This paper reports causal analysis process including recapitulating structure, working principle, and fault phenomenon of the emergency governor, and thor-oughly checking possible causal anomalies. Finally it was concluded that the root cause was lack of gasket in flange of ad-ditional safety oil throttle hole.During trial operation of the high-pressure oil pump, the additional safety oil pressure dis-turbance caused descending shift of emergency governor sliding valve and leakage of safety oil,and thereby triggered the shutdown of main steam valve. The fault was eliminated by reinstalling the gasket. This report of anomaly can provide useful information for operation of similar type generators.
