Review of Reactive Power Compensation Technology in Microgrids
In a microgrid based on renewable energy sources, known as distributed generation(DG),loads and power generation devices are located in close proximity to provide continuous electrical power. However the power electronic in-terfaces of DG systems lead to some serious power quality issues, such as reactive power compensation and harmonics.Due to the tight coupling of power generation and distribution, reactive power compensation becomes challenging in micro-grids,making it difficult to maintain an acceptable level of power quality. Therefore, current researches are aimed to ad-dress the expanding microgrid systems and alleviate these associated problems. This paper summarizes and reviews various control methods, algorithms, and devices for reactive power compensation in microgrids.
