Analysis of Failure Modes and Steady State of Submarine Cables
Due to the complex and harsh nature of the marine environment, cable laying is affected by not only loads such as gravity, buoyancy, inertial forces, and additional mass forces, but also construction conditions such as sailing speed, cable laying speed, and flow velocity distribution. This work focused on underwater cables and used MATLAB software to numerically simulate the force conditions of cables under two conditions of underwater laying and tensioning. The force conditions of cables were analyzed, revealing the influence of various external factors on cable tension, and accurately pre-dicting the force conditions of cables on cables. The results showed that the maximum tensile force of submarine cables oc-cured at the anchorage position inside the submarine platform, which was affected by not only the self weight of the sub-marine cable and its protective body, but also waves and other hydrodynamic factors. The vertical wave had a greater im-pact on the curvature and bending radius of the cable, and the geometric shape curve of the cable would protrude outward with the acceleration of the cable.
