Research on the Origins and Early Development Paradigm of Modern Chinese Engineering Education
The essence of the formation of early modern engineering education in China is,in fact,the Sinicization of West-ern engineering education systems. The early development of modern engineering education in China went through a process from Lin Zexu and Wei Yuan's"learning from the West to strengthen China"to Feng Guifen's"applying Western methods in China",and further to his development framework of"integrating the essence of the West and applying it to China". This not only signifies a transformation in the modern engineering education ideology,but also encompasses the inheritance of tradition in the construction of early modern engineering education systems. Therefore,in comparison to modern engineering education with a primary focus on Western engineering knowledge systems,the early modern Chinese engineering education developed its unique paradigm. These par-adigms are mainly manifested in four aspects:the Sinicization of the discourse construction of engineering knowledge systems,the Confucianization of engineering learners,the institutionalization of engineering learning environments,and the Westernization of en-gineering learning approaches.
