Plain embroidery is the most common kind of embroidery,and also the basis of various complex embroidery methods,but the current research on plain embroidery pays more attention to the positive overall artistic effect.In order to further explore the needle transport method and application scenario of single needle plain stitch,by combining literature research and real object research,through analyzing unearthed plain embroidery cultural relics and modern and contemporary plain embroidery works,the basic unit of plain embroidery—basic needlework in plain embroidery is proposed.Traditional plain embroider has three needle transport methods,named according to their emergence times.The application of the three basic stitch methods in contemporary Chinese embroidery works is classified and sorted out.The principles of various embroidery techniques are analyzed.From the perspective of embroidery stitch and process,we further understand and study China's plain embroidery culture,and find that the working people will choose to use different stitches according to the characteristics of patterns and practical needs,which contains the working people's creative wisdom,which is helpful to deepen the understanding of traditional embroidery craft.
