A Study on French Explorer Charles Eudes Bonin's Exploration Activities in Northwest China between 1899-1900
Charles Eudes Bonin was the first French explorer to explore the Mogao Grottoes and the Han dynasty beacon towers along the Great Wall at Dunhuang.He traveled from Beijing to Gansu by a route that led through Inner Mongolia,Shanxi,and Ningxia between the years 1899-1900,and then went from Dunhuang to Lop Nor in Xinjiang by trekking along the Altun Mountains.This paper lists the cities that Bonin passed through,the dates of his arrival and departure in each location,and the artifacts he acquired during his travels.In addition,it discusses the details of Bonin's activities in Gansu and Xinjiang based on the reports on his expeditions written by himself and by other scholars published in French academic journals.
