Building on the Past and Striving Forward——Eighty Years of the Dunhuang Academy
The Dunhuang Academy,which was initially founded as the National Dunhuang Art Institute in 1944,renamed as the Dunhuang Cultural Relics Research Institute in 1950,and expanded to become the Dunhuang Academy in 1984,has now enjoyed a history of 80 years.After the efforts of several generations of scholars and employees,the academy has achieved com-prehensive development in cultural heritage conservation,academic research,cultural promotion,and the scientific management of historical resources.In the field of cultural heritage conservation,we have gradually improved the overall level of scientific ca-pability to take the lead in developing digital technologies suitable for the preservation of cultural relics.In the field of Dunhuang Studies research,we have focused on Dunhuang cave archaeology,cave temple art,and the Dunhuang documents,while strengthening studies on the Silk Road,multi-cultural interaction,and the ancient ethnic groups and cultures.In addition,we have been continuously fostering academic exchange and cooperation both domestically and abroad,and working to promote Dun-huang culture all over the world.
