The History of the Dunhuang Foundation in the U.S.
At the beginning of the 21st century,the conservation of the Mogao Caves faced formidable challenges such as rapidly increasing numbers of visitors,climate change and increased pollution from urban development.It was under such condi-tions that the Dunhuang Foundation was established.In 2010,at the behest of Director Fan Jinshi,Mimi Gates and Peter Little worked to set up the Dunhuang Foundation,a non-profit organization,in Delaware,USA.Since its inception,the Dunhuang Foundation has been devoted to the evolving needs of the Dunhuang Academy,and has helped with the research and promotion of Dunhuang culture and art.Specifically,the foundation has aided with the construction of a Visitor Center,the development of training programs for Chinese conservators,and various exhibitions of Dunhuang art and culture.
