The surrounding environment of hyperbolic cooling tower in a thermal power plant is complicated,the site is narrow,and there are many important facilities.Because demolition by blasting is difficult,high safety risk and expensive,other demolition methods should be adopted.The cooling tower is dismantled by opening a slot and incision in the tower shell and collapsing due to the instability of the cooling tower's dead load.ABAQUS,the finite element analysis software,is used to conduct nonlinear numerical simulation of the cooling tower col-lapse process,and to analyze the collapse mode and influence range of the cooling tower collapse when the tower tube is sloted.The calculation results show that when the angle of solt reaches 90°,the cooling tower can col-lapse under its dead load,the time is 9.339 s and the influence range of collapse is about 30 m on the project.The construction of the cooling tower demolition project is basically consistent with the shape and process of nu-merical simulation.Due to the significant disturbance of the dismantling machinery on the shell during construc-tion,and the unloading groove directly above the center position of the solt,the actual collapse process is shorter than the simulation time.The numerical simulation experience of tower demolition with slot can provide refer-ence for forward design of cooling tower.
