The Impact of Digital Transformation on Employment in Manufacturing Firms from a Work Task Perspective
This paper divides the work tasks of employees in manufacturing enterprises into routine manual tasks,non-routine technical tasks and non-routine social tasks, analyzes the impact of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises on different work tasks and the mechanisms, and empirically examines them using the data of China's A-share listed manufacturing companies. The study finds that firstly, digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises has a destructive effect on routine manual tasks, but has a creative effect on non-routine technical and non-routine social tasks.Second, digital transformation of manufacturing firms reduces the demand for routine manual tasks and increases the demand for non-routine technical and non-routine social tasks mainly by facilitating the service-oriented transformation of firms and technological innovation. Finally, the impact of digital transformation on different tasks in manufacturing firms varies significantly under conditions of different firm locations and factor intensities. This study provides new theoretical perspectives and empirical evidence for a deeper understanding of the employment effects of digital transformation in enterprises.
