A Comparative Study of the Nationalism in the Poetry of Liang Qichao and Kim Taek-yong
The poems of both Liang Qichao and Kim Taek-yong exhibit three qualities of nationalism. The first is the integration of patriotism and national consciousness. Both poets'works contain a strong sense of patriotism, but this is essentially different from the"patriotism"in ancient Chinese and Korean poetry because of the integration of national consciousness. The second is the expression of belonging. No matter where they are, people will have an emotional belonging to their motherland.Liang Qichao and Kim Taek-yong expressed their feelings of belonging in their poems by writing about their homesickness for their relatives and their concern for the country and the people. The third is the reflection of resistance. When encountering the aggression of external powers, modern nationalism has produced a rebellious quality, which is also reflected in Liang's and Kim's poems. However, although the object of resistance in both poets'works is the imperialist aggressor, the purpose of resistance is to reform and restore sovereignty respectively.
