To investigate the mechanical behavior of cable under radial compression, this article takes the connecting cable in aircraft as the research object. The contact theory is used to describe the contact and friction behavior between internal wires.Numerical calculations are used to simulate the cable response under radial compression, and then followed by the experimental verification. The results show that the circular cross-section of the connecting cable has been changed to a butterfly shape, and the internal wire at the center of the butterfly shape has the maximum stress. The initial position of the cable has great influence on the butterfly shape and stress of wires.Based on the validation test, the most dangerous condition for cable under radial compression is proposed. The research results have significant reference for predicting and monitoring the damage of cable.
