A Study on the Disposition of the Character"Zhuo(捉)"in the Ta-ng and Song Dynasties
The"zhuo(捉)"disposal construction formed in the Tang Dynasty and can be summarized into three types,namely,"zhuo(捉)+O1+V+O2","zhuo(捉)+O(+X)+V",and"zhuo(捉)+O(+X)+V+Y",Its formation comes from the reanalysis of the serial-verb constr-uctions of the"zhuo(捉)",which means that"zhuo(捉)"has been grammaticalized from a verb to a disposal preposition,the reasons for its grammaticalization are mainly reflected in two ways:One is the increased use of the verb"zhuo(捉)"which provides a semantic basis for it;The other is the analogy of the"jiang(将)"disposal construction which provi-des it with a formal basis.However,due to the competitive role of the"jiang(将)/ba(把)"disposal construction,the"zhuo(捉)"disposal construction gradually declined,which also reflects the economic principle of language.
