A Historical Investigation of the Lease Negotiation of the American Consulate in Mukden in Modern Times
In order to protect the Americans residing in China and the interests of American enterprises, the US established its consulate in Mukden in 1904. According to the regulations, the consulate building is for diplomatic use and the rent can be negotiated. The Port Opening Bureau is responsible for its maintenance. The US consul even asked the Bureau to rent a house for his individuals use, paid in fact by China. The Office of Mukden Patrol agreed his unreasonable requirements, showing the government's willingness for a friendly Sino-US relationship.
