The Use of the Title Suffix "Research" in Academic Journals
In order to find out the use of the title suffix "research" in journals, some related data are collected and a questionnaire is made accordingly. Results show that titles reflecting research background, theory or method need this word more than those not, and the standards of use are completeness, accuracy and conciseness. It is concluded that the word is needed after an attributive premodifier; when its absence may result in misunderstanding or ambiguity, it should not be avoided; and in other circumstances the suffix is advised to be omitted to enhance conciseness.
