A Retrospective Study on Exchanges and Collaborative Development of China with Indian Ocean Rim Island Countries
With the advancement of the'Belt and Road'Initiative and the rising geopolitical status of the Indian Ocean,this article explores the evolution of China's collaborative exchanges with island countries along the Indian Ocean Rim since its reinstatement in the United Nations in 1971.It surveys the interactions between China and major island countries along the Indian Ocean Rim from the 1970s onwards,encompassing political,economic,cultural,and security dimensions.This retrospective analysis aims to understand China's historical engagement with these island countries,identify key developments in China's collaborative exchanges with these island countries,and offer insights into future prospects.China,together with island countries along the Indian Ocean Rim,strives to build a maritime community with a shared future,promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning,and usher in a new era of high-quality"Belt and Road"cooperation.
