Study on Rebound Effect of Energy Consumption Based on Technological Progress in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality
The technological progress is the key factor for improving energy efficiency. It is found that the decrease in energy intensity makes energy products cheaper relative to other products but increases more energy consumption; the technological progress promotes faster economic growth but brings higher energy consumption demand, which results in technological-based "energy rebound effect". Based on the data from 1986 to 2009 of Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, and by using the traditional Solow' s residual value production function, this paper evaluates the energy rebound effect related to technological progress in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality. Empirical results show that the saving and rebound is a dynamic process in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, and the rebound effect tends to be decreasing on the whole.
