In order to clarify the status and trend of the studies on Chian Railway Express (CR Express) and illustrate the scientific problems worthy of further research, 394 papers published during 2017-2022 are col-lected from multiple literature databases, and then the hot spots, research directions and research methods on the CR Express are clarified with the help of literature metrology technology and visual analysis tools. The col-lected papers are reviewed and summarized in six study directions, namely, the necessity of operating the CR Express, its impacts, promoting policies, liner train organization, the CR Express network analysis and plan-ning. It is found that domestic researchers have published more papers than foreign researchers. In general, the papers can be divided into two categories: qualitative research and quantitative research. The initial re-search mainly focuses on qualitative research, involving the analysis of problems faced by the operation of the CR Express, development countermeasures and process optimization. In the later published papers, the quan-titative research gradually increased, the main content concentrates on the location of hub stations, route pan-ning and competitiveness evaluation. On this basis, it is pointed out that network optimization under multi-route cooperation, the development path under the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the function updating as the prosperous the Arctic shipping route are the key issues worthy of further study.
